Language: darkness and purity.

These are two things which do it for me in fashion, especially when found simultaneously.

Two recent Spring/Summer 2009 collections have given me darkness (needless to say, darkness of the deep, thoughtful, self-reflective kind as well as the literal kind) and purity (of line, cut, intent, execution and theme). These collections are Jil Sander and Rick Owens.

Here, one word comes to mind for each set of looks, of which the first is Sander, the second Owens.

Composure
Anabela Alyona Revelation
Alyona Kinga Drama
Kate Karlie Ambiguity
Karlie Mariacarla Ambition
Magdalena Hanne Innuendo
Suvi Iris Awareness
Sigrid Irina
I think it's very important to combine language with fashion, we must speak about things in order to understand them. Surely it makes sense to apply a personal lexicon to a personal style? By using words to describe the emotion a garment conjures for you, one can better understand why certain people are drawn to certain clothes and, in turn, why such clothes may suggest a certain type of person.

This allows us to understand ourselves and our relationship both to fashion and language in a more thorough way. We must speak about fashion intelligently and, indeed, relevantly, we must have a strong comprehension of language and it's pivotal role in describing and moulding fashion's mood, trends and societal relevance.

This is such an excellent post! You made an excellent point about how describing a collection or look in terms of what it makes us feel can really explain who we are and what we like. And I also lovedddd Jil Sander's collection. It made me feel calm and also bright even though it was monochromatic colors.
