Fendi A/I 2008
This is the best Fendi collection ever.
It has this amazing animalistic, wild, passionate vibe and yet the overriding mood is a definitive cool. A Karlesque cool. And I love it all the more for such unexpectedness. I had come to associate Fendi with a certain kind of fashion which RRN is not particularly partial to, but this collection proves my assumptions utterly misinformed. And thank God for that, look what I've been missing out on!
I love the short, simple skirts teamed with exaggerated, ostentatious coats, the contrast creates such a pleasing dynamic. The colour-pallette and fabrics both lend themselves to the feeling of wildness, of wilderness - of letting go whilst belting up. Certainly, the leathers and furs suggest to my mind a gesture to some sort of base functionality needed in a winter collection, as paradoxical as that may sound in reference to Fendi.
Nonentheless, nature is surely a reference-point here with leaf-shaped sleeves and textures reminiscent of bracken or foliage. The knitwear and eveningwear represent the epitome of sophistication and balance out, with their classicness, the less conventional aspects of the collection (floor-length leather skirts, fur skirts, poodle-like fur-rimming, etc.)
Whatever your opinion, you can't deny there is something incredibly attractive about clothes that hark back to our neanderthal days without losing an ounce of chic.
P.S. I can't not mention the glorious hair and makeup in this show, every girl looks amazing. The hair is fierce and feminine, the makeup sexy and slightly feline. Roar!
