Richard Nicoll A/W 2008

Nicoll has really presented a stellar collection this season. Building on the wonderful concepts of his SS08 offerings, AW08 has given further depth to the ideas of transparency, layering, pleating, amish propriety vs. modern sensibility and Nicoll's trademark: fab tailoring.

That almost tomboyish feel of Nicoll's is still here, but he has introduced some stunning evening dresses and skirts to balance things out. It's interesting that there is always a very masculine complex to his work, yet it maintains a very womanly silhouette (this collection even has some garments verging on girly!).

The colour palette lends itself to the cooler months with rich purple, teal, navy and black featuring prominently. The fabrics are luxurious: organza, chiffon, wool, satin, diamantes and even mink! Stylist Jacob K has toyed with the colours and fabrics to create interesting, unexpected combinations which highlight the versatility of the collection. All in all, Richard has really stepped things up (again), proving he's ready to play with the big boys.

"It's so modern!"
